Capitol Hill’s much-loved circus bar the Unicorn remains closed and under repair following water and smoke damage from a fire in its neighboring building in July. A community fundraiser has been launched to support its workers:
The business is working to recover, but Unicorn remains closed as we restore the space. While the doors may be shut, the world continues to move forward, leaving so many without work. Drag artists, bartenders, security, kitchen staff, and management are all in limbo as the wait continues.
“Every dollar goes directly to supporting Unicorn’s incredible staff, our artists, bartenders, security, kitchen crew, and management—while they wait to return to the stage and the community they love,” the fundraiser organizers say.
A July 30th electrical fire caused more than $175,000 in damage to the 12th and Pike buildings home to Unicorn and the Postal Options business and mailbox center.
CHS reported here in August on the tough decision by the Postal Options owners to permanently close the business after community support helped them find a temporary new home to serve the many Capitol Hill small businesses and organizations that were customers of the neighborhood business and mailing center.
The Unicorn, meanwhile, remains under repair.
