Robert Saleh’s brother shades winless Jets a year after firing

The Jets’ woes gave one member of the Saleh family a chance to rub the team’s dismal predicament in their face.

David Saleh, the brother of former Jets head coach Robert Saleh, took aim at the franchise and owner Woody Johnson, mocking the team owner’s decision to fire Robert Saleh last season after starting the year 2-3 through their first five games.

“Last year the Jets were 2-3 playing for first place in their division when [Woody Johnson] declared that ‘the best roster in franchise history needed a spark,’” David wrote on X. “Since then the Jets defense has gone from first to worst donning a record of 3-14.”

He ended his post with a number of hashtags, including #allgasnobrake, #VictoryMonday and #thespark.

The Jets have gone 3-14 since firing Saleh last year and new head coach Aaron Glenn is in the midst of a historically ugly start to the 2025 campaign with his squad 0-5 through five weeks.

And Johnson did in fact call the 2024 Jets team the “most talented” that had ever been put together and that the decision to fire Robert Saleh was made to “give this team the most opportunity to win this season.”

“I just felt that the best way to go forward with a new direction and taking [defensive coordinator] Jeff Ulbrich and making him the interim head coach, I thought that would get the most out of this team and give us the best chance to do what we all want to, which is going to the playoffs,” Johnson said at the time.

Things did not get better for the Jets after the move.

Robert Saleh is currently the 49ers’ defensive coordinator.

San Francisco is currently 4-1 and sitting in the top spot in the NFC West.
