Deion Sanders loved Shedeur’s two-touchdown Browns statement

Deion Sanders loved his son’s primetime NFL preseason debut.

The NFL Hall of Famer and Colorado football coach gushed over Shedeur Sanders’ impressive showing Friday night in his Browns debut amid a quarterback competition.

Shedeur, the second-youngest of Deion’s five children, threw two touchdown passes and made some notable plays in Cleveland’s 30-10 road win over the Panthers.

“Yes Lawd! Yes! @ShedeurSanders,” Deion posted to X at 7:48 p.m. ET on Friday night.

While he didn’t directly mention his son in two tweets later in the night, Deion also penned two other positive messages.

“Oh yeah what now! #CoachPrime,” Deion wrote at 8:24 p.m. ET, before writing two minutes later: “God is so Good!”

The NFL world usually doesn’t focus on a fifth-round quarterback’s preseason debut, yet the Sanders family name had Shedeur as the center of attention Friday night.

Shedeur had once been considered a potential No. 1 overall pick, only to slide to Cleveland in the fifth round with the No. 144 pick.

Deion coached his son for four years at Jackson State and Colorado and predicted Friday night would mark the start of something special for his son.

He revealed recently that Shedeur had told him to stay away from Browns camp as the youngster believed he was not yet where he wanted to be in his development.

“He’s so prepared right now,” Deion said in a press conference Friday. “A lot of people are approaching it like a preseason game, he’s approaching it like a game. And that’s how he’s always approached everything, to prepare and approach it like this is it.

“I just can’t wait to see him get down tonight, but it’s going to be a little weird. It’s going to be a little strange. He’s going to be a problem after tonight, I promise you that.”

Shedeur looked like a potential problem against Carolina with his 14-of-23 showing that included two scores, plus four rushes for 19 yards.

The 23-year-old connected with wide receiver Kaden Davis for both of his scores, the first from seven yards out to tie the score at 7-7 in the second quarter and the latter, a 12-yard strike, giving Cleveland a 14-7 edge later in the second stanza.

“I did some good and bad,” Shedeur said. “I know moving forward I won’t do the same mistakes twice, whatever the decision is.”

Shedeur’s showing should only help him in the Browns’ four-way quarterback competition also featuring veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie, third-rounder Dillon Gabriel.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently reported the Browns are “more than likely” to carry all four on their roster, despite most teams not doing so.

Should Shedeur continue to add strong preseason tape to his resume, the buzz will only grow around whether he’ll be the long-term answer — or a good problem, as his father said — in Cleveland.
