The fat lady sang. Aaron Judge knocked Yogi Berra out of the top five on the Yankees’ all-time home runs list, going deep for the 359th time in the first inning of Tuesday’s game against the Tigers to surpass the franchise legend. The home run was Judge’s 44th of the season, a solo shot off right-hander Casey Mize that traveled 412 feet to right-center field. Next up is Joe DiMaggio, who hit 361 home runs as a Yankee, though Judge has some work to do to catch the top three on the list: Babe Ruth (659), Mickey Mantle (536) and…

Two out of five Supreme Court justices tasked with deciding the fate of the former Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, have found the ex-leader guilty of plotting a coup. But Bolsonaro will only be convicted if at least one more justice finds him guilty. The former president has denied all the charges against him. The first justice to cast his vote, Alexandre de Moraes, said there was “no doubt” that there had been a coup attempt after Bolsonaro lost the 2022 presidential election to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The second justice, Flávio Dino, also found Bolsonaro guilty of all…
The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed the administration to freeze nearly $5 billion in foreign aid payments that President Trump moved to cancel in a rare “pocket rescission” last month. In a one-page order, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts granted the Trump administration’s emergency request to block a federal judge’s Sept. 3 ruling that required $11.5 billion in funds previously appropriated by Congress to be dispersed. Roberts partially stayed Washington, DC-based District Judge Amir Ali’s order for foreign aid spending “subject to the President’s August 28, 2025 recission [sic] proposal currently pending before Congress.” Roberts ruled in favor of…
Lumentum CEO Michael Hurlston explains why his company is ‘on fire,’ how Apple’s face ID works and more on ‘The Claman Countdown.’ People living in one southern community are joining the growing list of Americans saying no to a proposed data center near their homes. Tarboro, North Carolina, residents are urging their town council to reject a proposal for a 50-acre, 300-megawatt Energy Storage Solutions LLC site projected to bring 500 jobs and millions of dollars in tax revenue to the town. “This project poses significant risks that outweigh any potential benefits, not only to those living nearby but to the…
It’s my fifth year in a row writing about Apple’s annual iPhone event, and I have never actually been tempted to buy the latest and greatest iPhone. Like my colleague Julie Bort, I’ve always waited to upgrade my phone until it’s absolutely necessary. But then, the iPhone Air came along. I want it. Apple’s new iPhone 17 line is impressive in its own right, but this generation of devices marks the first time that Apple has made an iPhone Air. Like the MacBook Air, it’s a thinner, sleeker device, which emphasizes style over its tech specs. While I can appreciate…
2:42 PM: Thanks for the tips. Police have received calls this past hour about two masked men in The Junction, photographing people and businesses. Officers checked them out in the vicinity of the Post Office and Eagles aerie; they told dispatch the men weren’t doing anything illegal (permission is not required to photograph anyone or anything visible from a public space like a sidewalk or street). What some who’ve seen them report to be unsettling is their outfits (here’s one photo texted to us), reminiscent of what plainclothes ICE agents have been photographed wearing, but one report we’ve received say…
