Darth Vader’s lightsaber sold at auction for record $3.6M

If you want the force, it’s going to cost you.

A “Star Wars” groupie made history plunking down $3.6 million this week on a single piece of Hollywood sci-fi history: the original lightsaber wielded by late actor David Prowse during the filming of the sequels “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.”

It is the very same lightsaber seen in the iconic “No, I am your father” scene from “Empire,” where Luke Skywalker learns he’s Vader’s spawn.

No word on the name of the fan who now owns the screen-matched dueling lightsaber, which was one of hundreds of items to hit the auction block this week at movie memorabilia and collectibles company Propstore in Los Angeles.

The lightsaber was used in two “Star Wars” films. Propstore/INSTARimages

The winning bid marks the most anyone has ever paid for a “Star Wars” prop.

While James Earl Jones provided the voice for Darth Vader, Prowse was the actor behind the mask.

The lightsaber, which has chips and cracks from its use on set, also saw action in certain scenes by stunt performer Bob Anderson.
