    • 23rd Ave firefighter threat arrest and arson swarm: Seattle Police say the man arrested for threatening a Seattle Fire battalion chief with a chunk of concrete as firefighters responded to a flurry of set fires along 23rd Ave early Saturday morning does not appear to be the suspect in a string of damaging arson fires across South Seattle. According to SPD, police were called to 23rd and John just before 7:30 AM Saturday to a “help the firefighter” emergency call after the man began threatening a responding fire crew. Police were able to quickly take the suspect into custody. Firefighters had been called to the area starting around 7 AM to a reported set rubbish fire at 23rd and Ward. Another small arson fire was reported at 23rd and Aloha. A car was reported damaged in one of the fires as firefighters searched the area for more fires. Police said Saturday the suspect arrested for threatening the fire crew “does not appear to be South Precinct arsonist.” A $10,000 reward has been offered in the case of several intentionally set fires in South Seattle that have damaged homes and structures in the area.
    • CD fire investigation: Seattle Fire investigators were not able to determine a cause for a July 24th 20th Ave fire that damaged two homes in the Central District. A department spokesperson said the investigation was officially deemed “undetermined” and the fire has not been connected to the South Seattle arson string.
    • Pike/Pine street takeover: Police could only stand by as a massive crowd of people and a truck blasting music filled E Pike and cars spun doughnuts on Broadway around 1:15 AM Sunday morning. SPD estimated a crowd size “of 300-800 people” and multiple vehicles blocking the streets at 10th and Pike. “Crowds from bars came out into the street, and a DJ in the back of a truck started playing music. There were several reports of fights in the crowd, but no injuries were reported,” SPD reports. SPD says there were also “armed robberies that occurred in or adjacent to this crowd.” According to East Precinct radio, officers were told police “did not have sufficient resources” to try to break up the large crowd. Police were directed to monitor the situation involving a crowd “from 10th Ave to Broadway” and intervene only for “immediate life safety issues.” There were no reported arrests.

    • Armed robberies: Police were called to two reported armed robberies near the Sunday morning street party. In one incident reported at 2:20 AM, the victim reported five males robbed them at gunpoint on E Pike before fleeing in a black vehicle. Police made a traffic stop but had the wrong car, SPD says. In a second gun incident reported less than 10 minutes later, police took a suspect into custody at 13th and Pine:
Investigation showed two vehicles leaving the area got into a verbal argument due to a vehicle stopped in the road with their hazards on. The male suspect brandished a Glock, the female victim asked if he was going to shoot her, and he attempted to enter her vehicle. Officers performed a consent search of the suspect’s vehicle and recovered a Glock handgun. Suspect arrested and booked to KCJ.
    • QFC armed shoplifters: SPD says it took four into custody after police were called to the Broadway Market QFC just before midnight Saturday after a group of young shoplifters reportedly pulled a gun as they tried to steal a bottle of booze. SPD reports that one member of the group pulled out a gun during a scuffle as store security deployed pepper spray on the group. Police located the four suspects nearby outside the store and took them into custody and impounded their vehicle. The firearm could not be located despite a police K9 search of the area.
    • Miller Park gunfire: Police investigated gunfire and found casings but no victims and not damage early Monday morning near the Miller Park playfield at 19th and Harrison. Multiple 911 callers reported the gunshots just after 1:15 AM. Police found two casings at the scene. SPD says callers reported hearing a vehicle leaving the area after the shots.
    • Judkins Park carjacking: Police were called to a gunpoint carjacking near Judkins Park early Monday morning where the victim said he was duped into thinking he was bringing liquor to a teenage girl:
At 0106 hours, just after 1am, a caller reported that he had been carjacked by two suspects who brandished firearms and stole his vehicle at 31st Ave S and S Irving St. Officers from East and South responded to the area and tracked the victim’s stolen phone to a nearby street where it was located. The vehicle was not located, and entered as stolen. Further investigation revealed that the victim had driven from Lynwood to Seattle under the auspices of delivering liquor to a 14 or 15 year old female. It is believed her accomplices committed the crime when he arrived at a location she had set.
    • Chief addresses deadly weekend: A spate of shootings and homicides this weekend has brought a response SPD Chief Shon Barnes. There have been three deadly shootings in Seattle since Thursday night. “We want to reassure the community that we are committed to preventing further incidents of gun violence,” Barnes said in the statement. “Achieving this goal requires collaboration between the criminal justice system and the community.” Barnes said SPD holds meetings twice a week “to discuss violent crime trends and to determine resource allocations based on data-driven approaches and assessed needs.”
